The major projects that China will undertake in the next five years pave the way for a new journey towards building a strong country

The country has made clear plans to focus on promoting seven major transportation projects in the next five years - high-speed rail main channels, general speed railway networks, intercity commuting in urban areas, national highway networks, coastal ports, high-grade inland waterways, and modern airport systems. With a comprehensive and three-dimensional transportation infrastructure layout, we will break through development bottlenecks, smooth economic cycles, and inject strong impetus into national rejuvenation. The construction of the high-speed rail main channel will continue to write the "miracle of high-speed rail" and weave a dense national high-speed connectivity network. The "15th Five Year Plan" will basically build the main channel of the "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway (with a planned total scale of about 45000 kilometers). Currently, about 84% of it has been completed and put into operation, and channels such as Beijing Shanghai, Beijing Harbin Beijing Hong Kong Macao have been connected. In the future, we will accelerate the construction of remaining channels such as Beijing Hong Kong Taiwan and Hunan, promote the high-speed rail network from "connecting points into lines" to "weaving lines into a network", shorten the distance between cities in time and space, and facilitate efficient circulation of personnel and materials.

The upgrading of the conventional railway network and the construction of intercity commuting in urban areas will fill the gaps in transportation. The ordinary speed railway will focus on promoting capacity expansion and renovation, focusing on the central and western regions and remote counties, connecting the "last mile" of transportation, serving people's livelihoods and material transportation, and assisting rural revitalization. At the same time, we will strengthen the intercity commuting network in key urban areas such as Beijing Tianjin Hebei and the Yangtze River Delta, promote the construction of intercity and suburban railways, build a "one hour commuting circle", achieve urban living, and enhance residents' happiness.

The construction of the national highway network will lay a solid foundation for land transportation and achieve a higher standard of "county to county highways and township to township hardening". In the next five years, we will improve the layout of the highway network, promote the expansion of high-speed main channels, open up inter provincial "dead end roads", and deepen the construction of "four good rural roads", making rural roads convenient and prosperous, breaking down urban-rural barriers, and providing guarantees for rural revitalization.

The construction of coastal ports and high-grade inland waterways will activate the potential of water transportation and build a "river to sea" water transportation system. Coastal areas will focus on building world-class port clusters around the Bohai Sea, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, promoting projects such as Ningbo Zhoushan and Guangzhou Nansha Port Area, and enhancing international shipping competitiveness. The inland waterway will focus on the Yangtze River trunk line, the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal, etc., promote capacity expansion and upgrading, start construction of the Three Gorges Water Transport New Channel, promote river sea intermodal transportation, and create a "green artery" for logistics.

The construction of a modern airport system will enhance aviation support capabilities and build the 'Air Silk Road'. China has become the world's largest aviation population country. The 15th Five Year Plan will improve the airport system, promote the renovation and expansion of hub airports, add new regional airports, promote the digital and green transformation of civil aviation, expand international routes, strengthen the core hub position of the "Air Silk Road", and provide high-level services for opening up to the outside world.

The seven major transportation projects are interconnected, forming a comprehensive transportation system of "land, sea, and air" in China. In the next five years, the implementation of these projects will significantly improve the level of infrastructure construction, connect the economic "arteries", drive industrial development, create employment, lay a solid foundation for modernization construction, and demonstrate China's speed, quality, and strength.
